Measurement campaign at High Field Laboratory of Tohoku University, Japan

A small team from the Group of Applied Superconductivity visited the High Field Laboratory for Superconducting Materials of the Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan from June 30 to July 8, 2024. Romain BABOUCHE, Damien ZURMUEHLE and Carmine SENATORE teamed up with Tatsunori OKADA and Yuji TSUCHIYA from the laboratory of Prof. Satoshi AWAJI to investigate the transport properties of the state-of-the-art REBCO tapes in magnetic fields up to 25 T. The unique facilities of Tohoku University allow measuring the angular dependence of the critical current in ultra-high fields and at variable temperature from 5 K to 77 K. The results of the measurement campaign in Sendai complemented by the high field/high current tests performed at UNIGE will provide important benchmarks to guide the use of REBCO tapes in magnets, paving the way for their broader use in advanced technological applications.
