KIT hosts 2024 Meeting of the International Energy Agency on High-Temperature Superconductors

Published on 1 November 2024

The Executive Committee (ExCo) of the International Energy Agency’s Technology Collaboration Program on High-Temperature Superconductors (IEA HTS TCP) convened for its fall meeting in Karlsruhe, Germany, from October 29 to 31, 2024. The event was hosted at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

The IEA HTS TCP’s mission is to raise awareness of high-temperature superconducting (HTS) applications and their benefits. It shares its findings through reports, position papers, and strategic documents, which not only cover technical feasibility but also address critical factors for market adoption, such as environmental safety and regulatory frameworks. Professor Carmine Senatore attended the meeting as Switzerland’s representative, under the mandate of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE). The meeting also featured an invited presentation by Dr. Neil Mitchell, a member of the Strategic and Scientific Advisory Board at Gauss Fusion. Gauss Fusion aims to develop Europe’s first fusion power plant, with a target operational date in the 2040s.
