Keynote Talk by Carmine Senatore at the SupraFusion Kickoff

Published on 17 April 2025

The PEPR SupraFusion (Priority Equipment Program for Exploratory Research) is an ambitious scientific initiative, supported by the France 2030 investment plan with a total budget of €50 million over five years. This national strategy is designed to foster innovation, industrial competitiveness, and the ecological transition through targeted funding in key technological sectors.

SupraFusion seeks to accelerate the development and integration of High Temperature Superconductors (HTS), particularly for magnetic fusion energy applications. Coordinated by the CEA and CNRS, the program officially launched on March 31 and April 1, 2025, with an event held at the campus of University Paris-Saclay.

At the opening of the second day, Prof. Carmine Senatore delivered a keynote entitled “Recent Advances and Trends in High-Temperature Superconductors for Ultra-High-Field Applications”.

Thanks to SupraFusion, more than 200 researchers from academia and industry have come together to tackle significant technological challenges, including the design of high-current superconducting conductors and magnets, advanced characterization of REBCO tapes, and the creation of a large-scale technological demonstrator. The program also explores innovative applications of HTS in strategic sectors such as power transmission, medical imaging, and low-carbon mobility.
